Strange Brews
Who Creates These Names?
Here are a few strange beer names we have come across. It's not exactly what we would choose but hey...who are we to judge. And YES, these are all REAL beers!
Moose Drool
This is an offering from Big Sky Brewing Co. The owners of the company were famous through a public-access cable show named "Beer Talk" in Missoula. The owners were brainstorming about the name beneath an old painting. Suddenly, one of them spotted a moose drinking from a lake in the painting. He perceived the moose to be drooling and they arrived at this catchy name!
Santa's Butt Porter
Beer drinkers usually drink during summer. However, the serious ones do drink all the year round. The breweries are often motivated to coin brand names that are acceptable during the biting winter too. Santa's Butt Porter is one such name and this porter is a hit! The middle name relates to large barrels (with a capacity of 108 gallons) known as butts. The brand is highly adored among serious beer drinkers.
Arrogant Bastard
The Arrogant Bastard brand is an offering from Stone Brewing Company, California. The company has given their product a catchy name to draw attraction. As if, the beer is so good that anyone daring to drink it can be called by that name and the person will not mind!
Seriously Bad Elf
This beer, with an alcohol content of 9%, bears a fictional name. It also relates to something mischievous. Ridgeway Brewing, the manufacturers, decided upon this name as they thought that at this level of alcohol content, anybody will do something seriously bad!
Sick Duck
If you are heartbroken, chances are that you overindulge yourself with beer. You are ready to sacrifice taste and drinkability. This beer is suited to those moods when you are broken down and want to get revived. With 11% alcohol content, this brand packs a lot of punch. The origin of its name is shrouded with mystery, but perhaps has some link to becoming ill with overindulgence.
Dogfish Head Snowblower Ale
A dogfish is a shark that feeds on small fishes and invertebrates. A snowblower on the other hand is costly alternative to a shovel. Dogfish Head, a small craft brewery based in Delaware, has come out with this winter equivalent of its popular Lawnmower beer. What a connection between the two seasons!
